About this house rental
The area offers excellent hiking terrain right outside the door, and cross-country ski trails start nearby and extend up to the high mountains at 1,040 meters above sea level. There are also opportunities for fishing (with a fishing license) and swimming in the area.
Gaustatoppen, at 1,882 meters above sea level, is one of Norway’s most visited mountains. From the summit, you can see one-sixth of mainland Norway. It’s a 10- to 15-minute drive to the parking lot, and from there, the hike to the summit takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. If you’d rather not hike, there’s a cable car inside the mountain.
Tuddal Høyfjellshotell, built in 1895, is five minutes away and serves meals in the Gildehallen. There’s a 24-hour store about ten minutes away by car. In the summer, it’s a 20-minute drive over the mountain to Rjukan, where Vemork houses the Industrial Workers’ Museum, featuring exhibits on World War II and the history of heavy water production.
