Past that, the kitchen's long counter opens onto the family room, which is where everyone ends up when it's time to figure out the day. A sliding door off the family room leads to the back patio and side yard, and the patio does a lot of the work here. There's a grill, fans overhead for August afternoons, heaters for after the sun drops, and a 52-inch outdoor TV for the game or a movie.
