Location
The apartment is only a 10-minute walk from the centre of Santa Maria di Leuca. The town has many good restaurants that serve the freshest seafood and local wines. The seafront is known for its lovely villas, elegant buildings and the Lungomare Cristoforo Colombo shopping street. In addition to being the home of Europe’s tallest lighthouse, the town is also at the end of the Apulian aqueduct, whose waters cascade down an elaborate waterfall (20 minutes) set in a lush park.
There is plenty to explore along the Ionian coast: beautiful beaches, caves and the stunning Il Ciolo inlet, near Gagliano del Capo, which is known for its crystal clear sea. The Thursday morning market in Castrignano del Capo (5-minute drive) is the ideal place to pick up fresh local ingredients to cook at home.
Gallipoli (35 minutes) is a very popular tourist destination during the summer months. In Greek, Gallipoli means “beautiful city”, and the town does not disappoint. The town’s ancient walls soar over the harbour and fishing port. There is a daily fish market. If you go early, you can pick up the freshest catch of the day.
The closest airport is at Brindisi, 1 hour and 30 minutes away by car.
