House in Ohio
Reasons to book
About this house rental
We're deliberately away from the cabin-lined roads near the busy trailheads. You drive twenty-five to thirty minutes to reach Cedar Falls and Old Man's Cave, and in exchange you get seven acres out the back door and evenings with nothing but birdsong and the fire.
THE COTTAGE
Rebuilt from the studs with a light, modern hand — crisp white walls, warm wood floors, deep navy accents and oversized windows that pull the forest into every room. Two bedrooms, each with a queen bed, plus two full bathrooms. A pullout couch in the living room sleeps up to two children.
Sleeps four adults maximum, plus two children. It suits a couple slipping away or two couples traveling together. It is not a large-group house, and we don't pretend otherwise.
THE KITCHEN
Set up for people who actually cook. Poured concrete counters, full-size
refrigerator and freezer, range, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Skillets in
three sizes, pots in four with lids, glass and ceramic bakeware, mixing bowls,
measuring cups, a knife block and two cutting boards, blender and slow cooker.
Dishes and cutlery for eight, plus a separate plastic set for children. Coffee
is provided, and the spice rack holds eighteen jars. Bar seating for four and a dining table for six.
OUTSIDE
Hot tub among the trees, gas fire pit that lights in any weather, gas grill,
paver patio with outdoor dining under string lights, and a screened porch with lounge seating and hummingbird feeders. A hammock in the trees, cornhole and
giant Jenga on the lawn, and a 1965 hay wagon we restored ourselves — sit on it, or use it as a photo backdrop.
Guests are also welcome to fish the private pond on our family's adjoining
land — a brisk walk or a short drive. It's private water, so no license needed.
Bring your own rod.
THE AREA
Boch Hollow is five to ten minutes away. Cedar Falls and Cantwell Cliffs are
about twenty-five minutes, Old Man's Cave and Rock House about thirty, Ash Cave and Conkle's Hollow about thirty-five. Logan is twelve minutes for groceries and restaurants; the nearest fuel, gas and diesel both, is seven minutes at Carpenter's Mini Mart on State Route 93.
GOOD TO KNOW
· Three cars park easily on the gravel beside the cottage, four if you're
willing to be creative about it.
· A sedan is fine spring through autumn. From roughly December through March the roads out here get challenging in snow and ice, and there is a short rise up from Bear Run Road into the property — we'd recommend all-wheel or four-wheel drive in winter.
· The cottage is not wheelchair accessible. There are steps to the entry and the property sits on a rise. Call us on (740) 603-4436 and we'll walk you through the layout honestly before you book.
· No pets, no smoking, no parties or events. Fast 1,000 Mbps Spectrum Wi-Fi and full cable with live sports.
· Check-in 3:00 PM, check-out 10:00 AM, self check-in.
· This is genuinely rural, wooded country. Deer cross the property daily and you may hear coyotes at night — please don't feed or approach any wildlife, and keep food indoors overnight.
