This is a prototype Earthship(traditionally called a "Volkshome" or "people's home"), built by Earthship Biotechture pioneer Michael Reynolds, with beautiful views of the Arroyo Hondo Mesa and Taos Ski Mountain. By prototype, we mean it is an early iteration with the foundational concepts of iconic Earthship architecture built into the mesa with passive heating and cooling while offering modern comforts like reliable water, an instant‑on gas heater, and grid power. It's perfect for guests wanting to try out the Earthship experience without managing complex systems like solar or reclaimed water.
You’ll have the entire home to yourself. It’s fully stocked with everything you need: towels, soap, cookware, an army of mugs, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, blow dryer, dishwasher, full-sized washer, dryer, and more. Our family has used it for years as a ski base and hiking retreat, and it truly holds a special place in our hearts. Upstairs bedrooms feature comfortable queen beds, and the living room includes a pull‑out full bed with views of the night sky (ideal for stargazing). At the foot of the pull‑out is the main fireplace, fully stocked with wood for cozy evenings.
Located about 20 minutes from the Ski Mountain and downtown Taos, it’s perfect for guests seeking privacy and nature while staying close to town. A natural hot spring is nearby as well. Message us for directions. Up to two pets are welcome!
