The Neighborhood:
Wailua Bay and Kapaa's Coconut Coast offer a quieter, more local way into Kauai. Coconut Marketplace is close for coffee, casual dining, shops, and groceries, while the Ke Ala Hele Makalae path nearby is a beautiful place to walk or bike along the ocean. Wailua River is nearby for kayaking, and Opaekaa Falls is an easy drive inland. Kapaa town has food trucks, bakeries, and small shops worth seeking out. Staying here also gives you a central jump-off point for Lihue, the North Shore, and the lush interior of the island.
Getting Around:
Kapaa sits along Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast, about 15 to 20 minutes from Lihue Airport. A rental car is recommended for exploring the island, though the main strip along Kuhio Highway is walkable, with beaches, shops, restaurants, and the popular coastal path all within easy reach on foot. Grocery stores and casual dining are close by. Parking is generally available at condos and along the street, making this an easy, low stress base.
