The Isle of Bute is a gem in the Firth of Clyde off the west coast of Scotland. It is very easy to reach and has many opportunities for outdoor and indoor pursuits. There are several spectacular sandy bays on the west coast and a town beach in Rothesay. There is a moated ancient castle in the main town of Rothesay complete with dungeon! A stately home in the south of the island at Mount Stuart which is situated in beautiful park land with a sandy beach. It contains the most spectacular stained glass installation in the grand hall and a marble chapel. There are pubs, hotels and cafes around the island and the rising star that is 'The Yard' which as well as a bar and pop up restaurants houses the local brewery and gin distillery. There is a bijou cinema, a museum and a range of summer festivals including the Highland Games, Agricultural and horticultural shows, A crime literary festival 'Bute Noir' and the music festival Bute Fest. Local artists show their work over a weekend in July on the Bute Artists Trail. The island has 3 golf courses each with magnificent views and a few challenges. A fairly flat round island cycle route allows for easy cycling and a cycling race takes place every year. There are opportunities for sailors with the harbour in Rothesay the Marina in Port Bannatyne and for the competitive sailor a round island race. A new childrens park has opened on the front and there are putting greens for the budding golfers.
