About this cottage rental
Set in an idyllic spot along the Powys/Shropshire border, this peaceful rural retreat is perfect for multi-generational families and groups of friends eager to explore a stunning corner of the Welsh countryside. Lying in the Cruck of the confluence where the Afon Tanat joins the Afon Vyrnwy, the property is a great base for peaceful walks amid glorious scenery. The friendly village of Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain is just over a mile away with a choice of great pubs and restaurants. The surrounding area has a wealth of historic landmarks and popular attractions, including Cadair Berwyn, Sycharth (The ancestral home of Owain Glyndwr), Powis Castle and Garden, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Chirk Castle, Lake Vyrnwy and Pistyll Rhaeadr, one of the UK’s tallest waterfalls, all within 17 miles. Close to Snowdonia national park and only a short drive from some of Wales's best beaches. Just across the border, the historic market town of Oswestry (7 miles) is home to the Oswestry Old Racecourse Common Heritage Site, the Old Oswestry Hill Fort and the Park Hall Farm Countryside Experience.

A characterful exposed stone wall separates the lounge from the generously sized farmhouse kitchen/diner with a country-style dining table, plenty of workspace and ample equipment for preparing a family feast. The ground floor also features a lovely step-free en-suite double bedroom, a stylish twin, plus an elegant family bathroom. Going up the bespoke oak stairs, the first floor hosts another refreshing family bathroom and the four remaining bedrooms, all thoughtfully decorated. Choose between three double rooms: both the Scandinavian-style Purple Room and the airy Yellow Room feature en-suite shower rooms, while the characterful Blue Room offers peaceful rural views. Completing this property are two amply appointed twin bedrooms. The whole barn has a modern, comfortable feeling with underfloor heating and eco technology designed to enhance your stay.
Heading outside, the generous garden is fully fenced to the rear, with open riverside access and a beautiful, large lawn. There’s a choice of seating areas, including a fire pit and a charming furnished terrace, making a sociable spot for dining alfresco and taking in the magical surrounding views after spending a relaxing day strolling by the river.
