About this house rental

Pause Collective is a fully renovated four-bedroom retreat in Ferndale, Michigan — a calm, design-forward home built for families, multi-generational gatherings, and groups of friends who want space to spread out without sacrificing walkability or comfort. The home sleeps eight across four real bedrooms (king suite, two queens, and a full), with a sleeper sofa available for an extra child or two. With a fenced backyard, a private two-car garage, a fully equipped kitchen with marble counters, and a basement lounge with a dry bar and board games, this is a home designed for people who want to actually rest while they're here — not just sleep here between plans.

The home sits in central Ferndale, about a mile from the downtown shops and restaurants and minutes from the Detroit Zoo, Royal Oak, and the freeway access that gets you to downtown Detroit, Birmingham, or the airport quickly. We've stocked the home with what real families and small groups need — including a high chair, a pack-n-play, a ground-floor bedroom, and a deep bathtub — so you can travel lighter and settle in faster.

The Space
Four bedrooms, sleeps eight comfortably:

Primary Suite — a calm, neutral primary with a king bed, full closet, and easy access to the main bathroom
Guest Room — second queen with thoughtful styling, ideal for a couple or a parent traveling with one child
Second Guest Room — third bedroom with a queen bed
Ground-Floor Bedroom — the most flexible room, with a full bed on the main floor. No stairs required — ideal for grandparents or anyone who'd rather skip the stairs
Sleeper sofa in the basement lounge — available as overflow for one or two kids, not counted in the standard sleeping capacity

Two full bathrooms:

Main bathroom includes a deep soaking tub plus shower — a real consideration for families with young kids and for anyone traveling to actually decompress
Second bathroom is fully stocked with towels, hair dryer, and toiletries

Kitchen built for actual cooking:

Marble counters and full-size appliances
Chemex, nespresso kettle, dish set and glassware for the full group
Extra virgin olive oils, salt, pepper, and basics so you can cook the first night without a grocery run

Living spaces:

Main floor living room with sectional seating and a large smart TV (Netflix, Hulu, Disney+)
Basement lounge with a dry bar, board games, second TV, and the sleeper sofa — a separate hangout space that works for parents after kids are asleep or for one half of a group when you need a break from each other

Outdoor space:

Fully fenced backyard — meaningful for families with toddlers and for the peace-of-mind reason nobody talks about: you can let kids play outside without staring out the window
Outdoor seating and a fire pit
Private two-car garage plus additional street parking

Family essentials included (no need to pack or rent separately):

High chair, booster
Pack-n-play / portable crib ( bring your own linens)
Bathtub for evening bath routines
Ground-floor bedroom for grandparents or anyone with mobility considerations
Extra blankets, and pillows.

Guest Access
This is a private, full-home rental — no shared spaces with hosts or other guests.

Self check-in via smart lock with a code emailed the day before arrival
Parking: Private two-car garage included, plus street parking in front
WiFi: Fast WiFi throughout the home, ideal for parents working a half-day or kids needing a break with a tablet
Hosts available via VRBO message — typical response time under one hour during the day and early evening

Neighborhood
Ferndale is one of the most walkable inner-ring suburbs of Detroit — a 1.5-square-mile city with a real downtown of independent restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, and bars. Pause Collective sits in a quiet residential section of central Ferndale, about a mile from the main strip on Woodward Avenue and 9 Mile.
Right around the corner (under 10 minutes by car):

Detroit Zoo — 5 minutes. The largest zoo in Michigan and one of the best in the Midwest, especially for families with kids 2–10. Zoo Lights in the winter is a destination on its own
Downtown Ferndale — 5 minutes. Coffee at Stroh's or Vault of Midnight, dinner at Voyager (seafood), Como's, or any of a dozen independent restaurants
Downtown Royal Oak — 8 minutes. Larger downtown with more dining, the Royal Oak Farmers Market on Saturdays, and the Detroit Zoo on its border

Detroit downtown anchors (15–25 minutes via I-75 or Woodward):

Ford Field (Lions) — 15 minutes
Comerica Park (Tigers) — 18 minutes
Little Caesars Arena (Red Wings, Pistons) — 19 minutes
Detroit Riverwalk and Hart Plaza — 22 minutes
Eastern Market (Saturdays are essential) — 17 minutes
Detroit Institute of Arts and Motown Museum — 18–20 minutes

Family day trips within an hour:

Belle Isle Park — 25 minutes (free, huge, beautiful, has an aquarium and conservatory)
Cranbrook (art museum and science institute, Bloomfield Hills) — 15 minutes
Greenfield Village and The Henry Ford (Dearborn) — 30 minutes

Airport:

Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) — 35 minutes via I-75 / I-94

Other Things to Note
A few specifics to set expectations clearly — we've found that the best stays happen when guests know exactly what to expect.

No events, parties, or large gatherings. This is a quiet residential neighborhood and we do not allow events of any kind, including bachelorette parties, birthday parties beyond the registered guest count, or any gathering of non-registered guests. Daytime visits from family are fine. This policy is firm and verified — please don't book if you're planning an event.
Quiet hours: 10 PM – 8 AM. Standard for the neighborhood.
Maximum eight guests. The sleeper sofa is available as overflow space for one or two children but does not increase the maximum guest count. Please be accurate when booking.
No smoking of any kind, indoors or out, on the property.
No pets at this time. We hope to add a pet-friendly option in the future.
Self-check-in is available after 4 PM. Checkout is at 11 AM. Same-day or early access can sometimes be accommodated — message us before booking.
Stairs: The home has stairs to the upper floor bedrooms and to the basement lounge. The ground-floor bedroom and one bathroom are on the main floor for guests who prefer to avoid stairs.
Neighborhood parking: The two-car garage is yours, plus the street out front. Ferndale street parking is unrestricted overnight.
