"Zum alten Burgturm" vacation rental in Emden-Wolthusen.
Emden, the largest city in East Frisia and a seaport, is located in the heart of East Frisia.
City life is characterized by many maritime events.
Well-known tourist attractions, such as the East Frisian State Museum, the Emden Art Gallery, the museum ships in Ratsdelft, and the OTTO-Huus, can be explored on guided city tours or informative canal and harbor cruises.
The Lower Saxony mainland coast invites you to discover the East Frisian Islands.
Our vacation apartments are located in the former ancestral home of the Houwerda family. They are situated on a mound in the idyllic village of Wolthusen, a quiet suburb of Emden, overlooking the historic garden with its ancient linden trees. The historic building was constructed around 1600. Today, it is one of the few remaining historical landmarks along the coastline. Restoration took place from July 2019 to December 2025.
In our vacation rental—which has been lovingly and meticulously restored and furnished using high-quality, eco-friendly building materials, natural lime, eco-friendly insulation, and mineral paints, has been stylishly and individually restored and furnished with a unique flair. Here, you can enjoy a journey back in time with a historic ambiance while still enjoying all the modern comforts of today. You’ll sleep on high-quality Emma mattresses with bed linens from Wolkenfeld. The bedding is also suitable for people with allergies; the apartment features underfloor heating and fiber-optic internet with Wi-Fi.
The Wolthusen in Warfendorf is just a 15–20-minute walk from downtown —right on the Ems-Jade Canal, next to the Kesselschleuse (Europe’s only structure of its kind), along the ancient city fortifications, and the Emder Wallanlagen, now a recreational and green space.
The train station is about 3 km away. Grocery stores and other shopping options are within 600 meters.
Bedding and towels are provided for your initial stay and are, of course, included in the price. The overnight tax of 3.5% payable to the city of Emden is also included in the room rate. No security deposit is required.
Our three vacation apartments, located in a complex with each having a separate entrance, can also be rented together, each accommodating 2 people.
