The Space:

Steeped in history and full of character, this beautifully restored two-bedroom cottage in Hinton St George offers a truly unique countryside escape. Built between 1800 and 1850 by one of the Lords of the historic Poulett family, the cottage is constructed from traditional Hamstone and red brick, with original windows and charming period details throughout. Even the front doorstep tells a story, with bricks gently worn smooth by generations of residents passing through.

• Inside, heritage blends effortlessly with modern comfort. A bespoke boot and coat area welcomes you in, while the cosy sitting room features a high-efficiency wood burner, large smart TV with Amazon Prime, and even a tucked-away dog nook beneath the stairs!

• At the heart of the cottage is the stunning farmhouse kitchen and dining space. Rich teal shaker units, brass fixtures and carefully chosen finishes create a luxurious yet timeless feel. Fully equipped with a stylish Smeg fridge, large range cooker, quality appliances and cast iron cookware, it’s a wonderful space for cooking and gathering together.

• Leading off the kitchen is a cosy library and home office, ideal for reading, working remotely or simply unwinding. Despite the rural location, you'll be able to make use of high speed fibre internet. Striking Crittall-style doors open onto a private courtyard with outdoor seating, perfect for morning coffee or evening drinks.

• Upstairs, two beautifully styled double bedrooms are filled with personality, featuring colourful wallpaper, curated artwork and antique storage pieces. One bedroom enjoys a stunning freestanding roll-top bath, creating a boutique hotel feel, while a separate luxurious shower room serves both rooms.

With ample free street parking and thoughtful touches throughout, this remarkable cottage offers a memorable stay in one of Somerset’s most picturesque villages.

The Neighborhood:

This cottage offers the chance to experience one of Somerset’s most beautiful and historically rich villages. This charming home sits in the heart of the village, directly beside one of Hinton’s most unique landmarks - an original 1863 gas street lamp, a reminder that Hinton was one of the first villages in England to install gas street lighting. Just moments away stands the magnificent St George’s Church, a Grade I listed building famed for its impressive 15th-century tower and historic Poulett family monuments.

The village itself is wonderfully welcoming, with a community-run shop and post office stocking local produce and fresh pastries, and the award-winning Lord Poulett Arms, a 17th-century thatched inn renowned for exceptional food, local ales, and an atmosphere that feels like stepping back in time.

For those who love the outdoors, there are footpaths and countryside walks in every direction. Jubilee Wood, a secure dog-walking park on the edge of the village, is ideal for guests travelling with pets, while the Cricket Club grounds, just a 90-second walk away, often host summer matches. A scenic 40-minute walk leads to The Feed Station in Merriott, a favourite among walkers and cyclists for hearty breakfasts and great coffee. Nearby Wayford Woods offers peaceful woodland walks for all ages.

Food lovers are spoiled for choice. Enjoy field-to-fork dining at The Barrington Boar, modern Somerset cooking at Holm, or award-winning cider and live music at North Down Orchard’s Cider Barn. Perry’s Cider Brewery & Museum is another local gem.

Historic days out include Montacute House, Barrington Court, and Muchelney Abbey, all within easy reach. For countryside, culture, food and village charm, Hinton St George offers a truly unforgettable Somerset escape.
