The Neighborhood:

Kefalos occupies the southwestern tip of Kos and offers a very different experience from the island's larger resort areas. Built across the hillside above the bay, the village retains its traditional character through narrow lanes, whitewashed homes, and a layout that has evolved naturally over generations. The elevated setting creates a genuine sense of local life and some of the most distinctive scenery on the island, with winding streets leading through the village centre and towards the coastline below.

Ambela House is located approximately 150 m from Kefalos village square, where you will find cafés, bakeries, tavernas, a conveniently located supermarket, and the local bus stop serving the wider island. The nearest coastline is approximately 1.5 km away by road. As Kefalos Village sits above the bay on a steep hillside, the route between the village and the beach involves a significant uphill climb on the return journey. For this reason, many visitors choose to explore the coastline by car or motorcycle, allowing them to enjoy the area's beaches, waterfront cafés, and watersports facilities with ease.

Corner Café Beach, approximately 1.5 km away, is one of the closest spots for swimming and relaxing by the sea. Its sandy shoreline and calm waters make it ideal for spending the day by the bay, while nearby watersports facilities offer activities including paddle sports and other sea based experiences.

Agios Stefanos Beach, around 3 km away, is among the most recognisable beaches on Kos. Golden sand, clear waters, and the remains of an Early Christian basilica beside the shoreline create one of the island's most distinctive coastal settings.

Camel Beach, approximately 4,5 km away, is known for its crystal clear waters and sheltered location beneath the surrounding cliffs, making it a favourite for swimming and snorkelling. Paradise Beach, around 6 km from the property, offers a wide sandy shoreline, shallow turquoise waters, and a lively atmosphere throughout the summer months. Lagada Beach, approximately 6,5 km away, provides a quieter alternative with a long stretch of sand and excellent conditions for relaxing by the sea.

Nature plays a defining role in this part of Kos. The Kefalos Peninsula combines rugged hillsides, dramatic coastal viewpoints, and open landscapes that are ideal for exploration. Scenic drives reveal panoramic views across the Aegean and towards neighbouring islands, while the surrounding countryside preserves much of the island's traditional character.

Local attractions include the Basilica of Agios Stefanos at approximately 3 km, the islet of Kastri at around 3 km, Kefalos Castle at approximately 500 m from the property and the traditional windmill area overlooking the bay at approximately 1 km. The Cave of Aspri Petra, around 450 m away, is an important archaeological site where evidence of prehistoric settlement was discovered. Kos International Airport is conveniently located approximately 17 km from the property.

Visitors are drawn here by a combination of exceptional beaches, traditional village life, watersports, coastal exploration, and authentic local cuisine shaped by generations of farming and fishing traditions. The slower rhythm of life in Kefalos offers a genuine connection to the island while remaining close to some of the finest beaches and natural landscapes on Kos.

Getting Around:

Kos International Airport is approximately 17 km from the property. The main port of Kos Town is around 40 km away and offers regular ferry connections to neighbouring islands and mainland Greece. The nearest bus stop is located in Kefalos village square, approximately 150 m from the apartment, providing connections across the island as well as the airport. Kefalos Village is built on the hillside above the bay, and the road connecting the village with the coastline is well maintained and suitable for both cars and motorcycles. This elevated position gives the village its distinctive character while allowing easy access to the beaches, viewpoints, and attractions of western Kos.

Other Things to Note:

A baby cot is available upon request for an additional fee of €20 per stay which will be paid in cash upon arrival. We are pleased to welcome pets to our property. However, guests are responsible for ensuring that the property is kept clean and in good condition.
