Thilina home stay

Its close to Rikillagaskada, that is a good thing. Its a a convenient location. Thilina is a kind and accommodating host. He has some exposure and training in hospitality industry. However, his parents who manage the place while he is working his day job are not trained in hospitality and that is clearly visible. They are very good people and make tasty food and very well accommodating. I booked with "meals". That gave me breakfast and dinner included in a reasonable room price.

I wanted to stay at a quiet place. Thilina's place is right next to a busy highway connecting all sort of inter city traffic. A convenient location. There is a busy cushion shop around the corner and a some sort of trading shop right below the room. They are busy with metal work, grinding, drilling. Some days noise kept going late. Traffic is quite audible from inside the house, so I picked the furthest away room, though it is quite small compared to the room adjacent to the road. However the noise was still high and usually goes until like 11:30 pm and then starts back around 3am in the morning. I was restless. There are three rooms and the one on the road side has the view and that is the biggest room. I was offered that, but I chose the smaller single room on the tiny bit quieter side. Some basic amenities were offered. For example, I had to ask for hand soap. Then I went out and purchased body wash, shampoo, conditioner, tooth paste etc. I usually don't travel with these as usually toiletries are standard (except toothpaste). Some parts of the house has ceiling. Most parts it does not. Walls need a repaint as they are getting dirty. There is a fridge, kitchen with gas stove. Water is potable. Area is has cooler climate during nights. Day times can become warm. Only rooms were air conditioned, so if you use other parts of the house you feel pretty warm and still wont be able to open windows since there are monkeys and mosquitos - equally a nuisance. So you have to either watch all open windows or keep those shut the entire time. The biggest problem is cold water showers. Thilina does not have hot water showers setup just yet. I had to take cold water showers during my entire stay. He said he is going to fix that soon. Hopefully he will. I used his fathers tuk for several short visits. It was bit on higher side than I expected, not a biggie as there are no tuk tuk or zip car options on Uber. Limited transportation options.
