About this house rental

Summary:

Open the door to panoramic Pacific views that follow you from the kitchen through the dining room to the deck. Three bedrooms and three baths sleep 8 in this Gualala oceanfront home with a Viking gas range and a separate TV room. St. Orres is the one restaurant within walking distance; the rest of Gualala is a short drive.

The Space:

Impressive ocean views set the tone the moment you arrive at this Gualala home — wide sky, moving water, and that easy coastal calm you came for.

The heart of the house is an open floor plan that flows from a full kitchen — anchored by a Viking gourmet gas range — into the dining area and living room, so cooking, conversation, and downtime stay connected. That layout makes the home especially easy for families and groups who want to spread out without losing each other. When it's time to unwind, slip away to the dedicated TV room, or retire early with a book while the surf keeps time outside.

Days here follow the coast: whale watching from the deck December through April, spring wildflowers along the bluffs of Gualala Point Regional Park, kayaking on the Gualala River, and gallery-hopping in town. St. Orres — the landmark restaurant just up the road — is the one dinner spot within walking distance; everything else in Gualala is a short drive.

The three full baths — one per bedroom — make mornings easy for multi-couple groups, and the washer and dryer keep sandy beach days from following you home. Fog is part of the coast's rhythm here: mornings often start soft and silver, burning off to blue afternoons, with the warmest stretch running June through September. Cell service can be spotty along this coast, but the home's WiFi keeps you connected when you want to be.

OUTDOOR LIVING

Step outside to the deck — your front-row seat for Pacific sunsets and, in season, migrating gray whales. Outdoor dining on the patio turns simple meals into sunset dinners with the ocean still in view.

The Neighborhood:

Gualala is a charming coastal village on the Mendocino-Sonoma border, known for its art galleries, excellent restaurants, and access to stunning beaches. Gualala Point Regional Park is a short drive away with river kayaking, beach access, and bluff trails. The only restaurant within walking distance is St. Orres. Art galleries, Gualala Point Regional Park, and other dining are a short drive.

Getting Around:

From San Francisco, the drive is about 2.5 hours via Highway 101 to Highway 1. Fly into Santa Rosa's Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport (STS), about 90 minutes east, and drive the coast from there. Having a car opens up the entire Mendonoma Coast.

Other Things to Note:

• December through April is whale season.

• You may spot gray whales breaching right from the bluff trail nearby.

• April through June brings stunning wildflower displays along the bluffs and throughout Gualala Point Regional Park.

• The warmest months run June to September.

• Coastal fog is common early in the day but gives way to sunshine by afternoon.

• Cell service can be spotty along the coast.

• The home has WiFi for staying connected.

Thanksgiving visit: The house was large, clean, and well decorated. The views from the front-facing windows were fantastic from sunrise to sunset. The bedrooms and beds were all very comfortable. The bathrooms, one per bedroom, were well equipped and clean. The TV room downstairs was great for movies. The heating worked well. The kitchen was large enough with good counter space but there were serious issues in the kitchen. The stove: oven does not maintain temperature; it varied between 380 and 180 when set to 325 (thermostat not working). Verified with our ThermoWorks temperature probe. Our turkey was very unevenly cooked (we had probes in the breast and thigh). We got some overcooked breast meat and some cooked leg meat; rest was not cooked. If left in longer, the cooked meat would be way overcooked. Many burners needed to be lit manually. The dishwasher: The door hinge was damaged so the door catch was not lined up and would not close. I was able to manipulate the door so that the catch lined up so it could be forced closed. We continued to use it this way. (This was the third Vacasa rental in a row at Sea Ranch where the dishwasher did not work.)Cleaners should notice and report broken items. The two buttons on the mortise lock are automatically set to the lock position when the key is used to unlock the front door. If you close the door and go outside, you are locked out.We would certainly rent and recommend this place if the kitchen appliances were guaranteed to work.
