📍 Village & Accès Avèze is a village of character (850 m above sea level) located on the Corrèze/Cantal border. It is in the heart of the Massif du Sancy, 20 minutes from the A89 motorway (exit 25) and the main sites of the Parc des Volcans. It is crossed by the Gorges de la Dordogne descending from its native Sancy. Its highlight is its patron saint festival on 14 and 15 August with a parade of flowered floats. A vehicle is essential.
🧀 Gastronomy Avèze is famous for its creamy and slightly marbled Bleu d'Avèze AOP Bleu Fermier, a must-see stop on the Cheese Route.
🚶 Hiking The trails start directly from the village (e.g. Circuit de la Plantade) or from the immediate surroundings (Saint-Sauves-d'Auvergne) to discover the Dordogne Gorges and the views of the Sancy. You are 20 minutes from the hiking departures of the Puy de Sancy, the Lac Pavin and the Chaudefour Valley.
☀️ Swimming (Summer) The main swimming spots are located on the Lac de la Tour-d'Auvergne, the Lac Chambon (2 Blue Flag beaches), the Banne d'Ordanche pond and the Bort-les-Orgues dam reservoir on the Dordogne.
❄️ Winter Sports You are about 25-35 km from the ski resorts of Le Sancy: Le Mont-Dore (authentic village and technical skiing), Super-Besse (modern and lively area) and Chastreix-Sancy (family and nature); La Stèle is a site in the middle of nature in the town of La Tour-d'Auvergne (multi-activity trail).
