About this house rental

Welcome to Barrel House on Derby Row, a stylish 1890's historic home in the heart of Louisville’s Schnitzelburg neighborhood. This updated space blends original Kentucky character + modern comfort, offering vintage soul without sacrificing today’s conveniences.

Walk to local restaurants, bars, & coffee shops, or take a quick drive to Churchill Downs, downtown, or other top attractions. Whether you're in town for the Derby, bourbon trail, or a weekend getaway, this is the perfect home base.

Built in 1890, this home has been lovingly updated while preserving the details that make it special.

Inside, you’ll find:
★ Spacious layout with high ceilings and original character
★ Two charming king bedrooms with historic warmth
★ Queen bedroom with quaint original angles and an integrated laundry nook
★ Fully equipped kitchen for cooking or gathering
★ Inviting living room designed for relaxing and unwinding
★ A curated blend of vintage charm + modern finishes

This isn’t a cookie‑cutter stay — it’s a home with personality, warmth, and a story. Because it’s an original 1890 structure, you’ll also find a classic narrow stairwell, one of the many authentic details that comes with a true historic home. It's part of the charm, but worth noting when carrying luggage.

Other things to note
★ Circa 1890 soul. This home wears its years like a well‑loved Derby hat—an original, narrower stairwell and a queen bedroom with angled ceilings add the authentic character Louisville's camelback shotgun homes are famous for.
★ Lovingly refreshed. Thoughtful updates honor the past while ensuring a spotless, comfortable, and warmly welcoming stay—perfect for pre‑race primps, bourbon nightcaps, or slow Southern mornings.
★ Derby‑day friendly touches. Plenty of charm for photos, cozy corners for mint juleps, and a peaceful retreat after the roar of Churchill Downs.
★ Quietly safeguarded. For guest safety, exterior‑only security cameras are in place; there are no cameras inside the home.
★ For lovers of character. If you’re drawn to story‑rich Southern spaces—patina, porch breezes, and a hint of romance—you’ll feel right at home here.

This house was perfect for the five of us. There was plenty of room and it was super comfortable. The location was excellent. I wish the weather had been nicer and we could have used the back porch. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again if we come back.

This is the worst stocked VRBO i have ever stayed in. I had to ask for a normal coffee pot, since they had a Breville. Only had 4 coffee cups. No table to gather at to eat or play games. The 3rd bedroom had a loud a/c unit by the bed. Very steep stairs. The on plus, is that they were very responsive when I did ask for a coffee pot and filters. Neighborhood was very quiet.
