Apartment in Sydney
Reasons to book
About this apartment rental
Ten minutes on foot from the sand, with a parking space of your own. That combination is the whole argument for The Wairoa, because in Bondi you normally get one or the other and spend the rest of your holiday circling Campbell Parade looking for a spot.
The Space:
Open-plan living and dining, generous enough that six people are not standing in each other's way while someone cooks. The kitchen is fully equipped, and there is an ambient electric fireplace that earns its keep from May onward. Air conditioning for February. An internal laundry with a washer and a dryer, which is what turns a two-week booking into a workable one.
Sleeping arrangements
Two bedrooms plus a premium Koala queen sofa bed in the living area, sleeping six in total. Two bathrooms is the number that matters here: six guests and one bathroom is a different holiday. Three couples can share this comfortably, or a family of five or six without anyone drawing the short straw.
Work and connectivity
Fast Wi-Fi throughout, and a dining table that doubles as a desk. Bondi Junction is a short bus ride for the train into the city, so a week of meetings works from here as easily as a week of swimming.
Building and parking
Secure on-site parking, included. Worth repeating, because it removes the single biggest daily friction of staying in Bondi and it means a day trip to the Blue Mountains or the Royal National Park is a decision rather than a logistics problem.
The neighbourhood
Bondi Beach is the ten-minute walk, and the first thing to do is the coastal path south past the Icebergs pool to Tamarama and Bronte. Bondi Icebergs Dining Room is the special-occasion booking; Sean's has been quietly excellent for years. For breakfast there is Speedos Cafe at the north end, Porch and Parlour in North Bondi, Lox Stock and Barrel on Hall Street, and Gertrude and Alice, the secondhand bookshop cafe that locals treat as a living room. North Bondi Fish and Harry's Bondi cover dinner without a reservation.
Hall Street is the practical strip for groceries, a chemist and a bottle shop. The Bondi Farmers Market runs Saturdays at Bondi Beach Public School. Bondi Pavilion sits on the beach itself with exhibitions and a theatre. Campbell Parade is the promenade, busy in the best way from December.
Bondi Junction is one suburb west, ten minutes by bus, for Westfield, David Jones, Coles and the Eastern Suburbs train line into the CBD in fifteen minutes. Rose Bay and Double Bay are a short drive for calmer harbour swimming and boutiques. Waverley Cemetery on the clifftop is a genuinely beautiful walk that most visitors miss.
Medical and university stays are practical from here. The Royal Hospital for Women and Prince of Wales at Randwick are ten minutes. St Vincent's and St Vincent's Private in Darlinghurst are fifteen. UNSW Kensington is twelve minutes, the University of Sydney twenty-five, and Sydney Airport around twenty-five minutes outside peak.
Who it suits
Groups of six who want a bathroom each pair and a parking space. Families with children who need the beach close but not the noise of the promenade. Couples travelling together. Corporate and medical guests on a two-week stay who need a kitchen, a laundry and reliable Wi-Fi. Anyone relocating to the Eastern Suburbs who needs a base while they look.
