Mantra Sun City Surfers Paradise

Stayed for 4 nights. Location was a short ~7 min walk away from the main strip on the Gold Coast & a ~2-3 min walk away from the beach. Close enough to enjoy the city, but far away enough not to have the noise. Staff were great and accommodating. Rooms were incredibly spacious. Our room did have a shower head that was broken but it wasn't enough to warrant a ding on the review and it still did exactly what a shower head does. Overall great spot & will be back again.

A couple of nuisance issues: a beeping every ten minutes, one singular beep. Took a day to work out where it was coming from (washing machine, even though it was switched off). Reported to staff and was told it was the dishwasher. Extraction fan over stove was wired in reverse - it blew the air down and did not suck it up. Otherwise good location, great pool, apartment was exactly what we were after. Cost is high, especially during school holidays.

Very nice hotel with all facilities you need

My partner booked this hotel for a romantic birthday weekend away because I had stayed here previously and absolutely raved about how amazing it was. Unfortunately, this stay could not have been more different, and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. From the moment we arrived on Saturday night, the experience felt unwelcoming. The lady who greeted us at reception was far from friendly or helpful. When we asked about the possibility of a late checkout, she seemed unsure and provided very little assistance. We also asked about the buffet as we were interested in dining there, but the response we received almost made us feel as though she didn't want us to attend rather than making us feel welcome as hotel guests. The parking situation was another major frustration. We were surprised to learn that parking was now $20 per night, apparently due to a new security system that had been implemented. While I can understand charging for secure parking, when we went down to the car park, someone else was parked in our allocated space. We then had to go all the way back upstairs to reception to let them know. For $20 per night, I would expect the parking space we had paid for to actually be available and the new security measures to be working effectively. Unfortunately, things didn't improve once we got to the room. The cleanliness of the room was very disappointing. We found items underneath the bed that had clearly been left behind, which immediately made us question how thoroughly the room had been cleaned. The shower was also noticeably unclean. To make matters worse, during the night the hot water cut out, leaving us with a cold shower. This is certainly not something you expect when paying to stay at a hotel, particularly during what was supposed to be a special weekend away. What makes the whole experience even more disappointing is that this was supposed to be a romantic birthday weekend. My partner specifically chose this hotel because I had stayed here before and couldn't speak highly enough of it. I had told him how wonderful my previous experience had been and how great the hotel was, so I was genuinely excited to return. Instead, I felt embarrassed and incredibly disappointed that somewhere I had recommended so highly had changed so much. Between the unfriendly welcome, confusion around basic hotel information, the parking issues, the cleanliness of the room and having no hot water during the night, this was far from the romantic birthday getaway we had expected. This hotel used to be amazing and had such a wonderful reputation and great reviews, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing. I really hope this was simply an unfortunate stay and not an indication of the standard the hotel has now become accustomed to. Sadly, based on this experience, I would seriously reconsider returning or recommending the hotel again.
