About this house rental
Welcome to our beautifully restored 300 year old barn, a spacious and character-filled retreat located 10 minutes from Saffron Walden.
Blending historic charm with modern comfort, the barn is a beautiful family home retaining many original features including striking exposed beams and a spacious mature garden. It sleeps up to 11 guests across five well-appointed bedrooms, making it ideal for family gatherings.
Inside, you’ll find generous living areas, including a large sitting room with woodburnig stove and baby grand piano and a lounge-diner with a table that accommodates 10–12 guests. The kitchen is well equipped and features a traditional four-oven Aga and a breakfast table, creating a warm and welcoming heart to the home. There’s plenty of space to relax, whether enjoying a film, a book, or time together. Three bathrooms ensure comfort for larger groups.
Step outside and the setting truly comes into its own. The gardens offer privacy and calm, featuring a tennis court, a large fenced natural pond and mature trees. Other amenities include seating, a tyre swing, fire pit, barbeque and access to hammock, tennis rackets, badminton and table tennis. The gardens are surrounded by fields leading to open countryside, offering plenty of opportunities for scenic walks straight from the door.
The tennis court provides a beautiful open setting backing directly onto fields. There is also a basketball hoop for playing with friends. Plants and flowering climbers surrround the space with an edible grape vine which produces a large amount of fruit in the Autumn. There are also fig, greengage and apple trees.
The barn is ideally located for exploring the local area. Saffron Walden, recently voted one of the best places to live in the UK, is a bustling and picturesque town less than 10 minutes away. It offers a renowned twice-weekly market and a wealth of beautiful beamed and characterful buildings in its historic centre.
Other attractions include Bridge End Gardens, historic mazes, small museum and castle ruins, Fry's Art Gallery and Saffron Hall - a world-class venue attracting performers and vistors from far and wide. Nearby is Audley End House and Gardens, miniature steam railway and Duxford Air Museum. The area is also home to an abundance of fantastic local pubs.
Cambridge is just 25 minutes to the north, and Audley End station (5 minutes drive) offers direct trains to London Liverpool Street in around 45 minutes. Stansted is our nearest airport.
The barn is located in a quiet rural village so we do request that noise is kept to a minimum. Perfect for family and friend gatherings. No loud party groups please. We welcome one well-behaved dog by prior arrangement, but kindly ask that pets are kept off furniture and bedding.
We hope you enjoy your stay.
