The Neighborhood:
A delightful little village of steep streets and narrow lanes, Borrowby is situated on a hilltop on the edge of the Hambleton Hills overlooking the great Plains of York and Mowbray. Standing by the old cross on the green, visitors can enjoy an unrivalled view west to the Pennines and Penn Hill dotted with towns and villages and east to the North York Moors. At the centre of Borrowby is a traditional village pub – The Wheatsheaf Inn – serving local ales and food. Just 5 miles away are the market towns of Thirsk and Northallerton with their many amenities. Thirsk is possibly best known as the Darrowby of the late James Herriot (Alf Wight), famous vet and author. Today Thirsk is at the heart of "Herriot Country", Gateway to two National Parks - the Yorkshire Dales to the west and the North York Moors to the east.
