The Lower Wensleydale village of West Burton is associated with J.M.W. Turner who sketched its famous waterfall some 200 years ago. This is superb walking country, with Aysgarth Falls less than 2 miles north and the Yorkshire Dales all around, and it’s excellent for birdwatching, too. The market town of Leyburn (8 miles) has a wealth of independent shops, galleries, pubs and is on the heritage Wensleydale Railway line.
