Animal lovers will enjoy meeting the friendly residents at Oak Moor Farm and Peak Wildlife Park, both within 3 miles, while Monkey Forest (22 miles) promises plenty of monkey mischief with its 140 free-roaming Barbary macaques. Pull on your walking boots and take to The Roaches (7 miles). This wildlife-rich Site of Special Scientific Interest beckons eager climbers with dramatic gritstone edges and breathtaking views, while Chrome Hill and Parkhouse (9 miles) provide rewarding hikes across the ‘Dragon’s Back’ ridge. Thorpe Cloud (11.5 miles) rises beside Dovedale’s famous steppingstones for a gentler stroll. Other attractions include Croxden Abbey (12 miles) or Tissington Hall (12 miles) before returning to the thriving town of Leek to browse its historic markets and unwind in a cosy pub.
