About this house rental

Surrounded by rolling hills and home to medieval castle ruins and an 11th-century church, Edlingham sits between Alnwick and Rothbury in the Northumberland countryside. This rural location offers the perfect blend of peace and quiet with plenty of nearby attractions to discover, both inland and along the coast. Venture to Cragside, the world’s first house to be lit by hydroelectric power, set within a 1,000-acre mountainous landscape of lakes, waterfalls and gardens. Alnwick offers a vibrant mix of shops, pubs and restaurants, along with its renowned castle and gardens. Alnmouth boasts a tranquil beach and wildlife-rich sand dunes, while Craster is ideal for browsing seaside-inspired arts and crafts, watching fishing boats in the harbour, or sampling smoked kippers fresh from the smokehouse.

Less than 400 metres from Edlingham’s historic church and castle ruins, this detached bungalow enjoys a peaceful setting with uninterrupted views across lush, green countryside. Enter through the back door – accessible for wheelchair users – into a spacious boot/utility room, perfect for stowing coats, boots and pet essentials. From here, a wide hallway leads into the heart of the home: a light-filled, open-plan living space with panoramic views of the surrounding hills. A telescope invites you to take a closer look by day and makes the most of the area’s renowned dark skies by night. Underfloor heating and a wood burner ensure a warm welcome in every season, while there’s plenty of room for pets to snooze as you unwind with a film or favourite book. The sleek, contemporary kitchen is fully equipped for relaxed holiday cooking, and the dining table is ideally placed to enjoy meals with a view. Floor-to-ceiling glazed doors and twin front windows bring in abundant natural light and frame the far-reaching landscape beyond.

When it’s time to turn in, the king-size bedroom offers a serene outlook over the front garden and includes a private en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom features comfortable twin beds, which can be converted on request (at time of booking) and has Jack-and-Jill access to a shower room, also connected to the hallway.

Outside, the enclosed front garden includes a lawn and patio with outdoor furniture for al fresco dining or simply soaking up the peace and quiet. As night falls, listen for birdsong and turn your eyes skyward – this is a designated dark sky area, perfect for stargazing. A gated, gravelled driveway provides easy parking and a relaxed start to your stay.
