About this cottage rental
A true home-away-from-home buried deep in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this delightful two-bedroom corner cottage makes an excellent base for a scenic walking holiday with friends or loved ones. It’s in Askrigg, a sweet village with a cobbled main square and lovely pub within 200 metres of your front door. Visit popular local sites like the multi-tiered Aysgarth Falls (5 miles), followed by a homecooked meal in the comfort of your holiday dwelling.
Enter the stone building and leave your coats in the porch before stepping into the cosy lounge. Here you can spark up the wood burner, housed within a raw brick fireplace, then sink into the sofa, perhaps reading quietly or popping something on the TV for entertainment. The well-equipped kitchen-diner has an appealing green theme and is great for cooking and eating yummy meals using local produce you’ve picked up at Hawes market (5.5 miles, Tuesdays). Upstairs, two beautifully decorated double bedrooms and a bathroom complete the inside space. In fine weather, make the most of the outdoor space, which is furnished with a table and chairs plus a bench so you can dine alfresco.
There are plenty of wonderful trails leading from your front door, following the River Ure or heading up to Buttertubs, home to 20-metre-deep limestone potholes and fantastic views. The market town of Hawes (5.5 miles) has plenty to offer the curious traveller, with its countryside museum and Wensleydale Creamery selling award-winning cheeses. History aficionados will be eager to check out the 14th-century Castle Bolton (7 miles) and Grinton smelt mill (11.5 miles).
