Famously featured in Harry Potter and Downton Abbey, Alnwick Castle (100 metres) is a must-see for all ages, and the nearby Alnwick Garden delights with its treehouse restaurant, beautiful shrubberies, fountains and 'Poison' Garden. Within 4.5 miles, you can tread the golden sands of Alnmouth Beach. Warkworth, 7.5 miles south, beckons with its majestic riverside castle, another glorious beach, and welcoming pubs. Beadnell (12.5 miles) is a favourite spot with water sports, a beach cafe for post-swim treats, and restaurants for relaxed evening meals. Head up to Craster (16.5 miles) for fresh seafood and the dramatic ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle. Gardening fans should make time for Howick Hall (14.5 miles), which has glorious gardens and an arboretum. Rothbury (21.5 miles) is home to Cragside – a Victorian mansion powered by hydroelectricity.
