Teotepeque, a coastal district that is now part of the Municipality of La Libertad Costa, offers the perfect setting for a spiritual retreat and pure relaxation. Just 20 minutes from our Surf City, here—in a place whose name comes from the Nahuatl language and means “Cerro de los Dioses” (Mountain of the Gods)—we find a beautiful tropical forest. It is guarded by two imposing stone giants that shelter a private beach of gray-black volcanic sand within them. The warm waters of the Pacific welcome you with open arms, energizing every cell in your body to the rhythm of the waves and helping you rediscover your inner balance.
It took fifteen years for the concept of wellness in an exclusive, paradisiacal tropical retreat to become a reality. I still remember the days in Playa Mujeres and on the Riviera Maya that inspired me to strive for the highest excellence in our own vision of well-being—specifically, through our accommodations. We didn’t want a hotel where the guest is just a number. We were convinced that we didn’t want to be a clinic by the sea, but rather an unforgettable, personal experience full of love, where every corner, every wall, and every work of art reflects a piece of ourselves. The Costa del Bálsamo was chosen to be the home of this dream. Nothing is left to chance when energy flows: the balsam tree has been used in our country since ancient times to heal, soothe, and comfort those who feel unwell. How wonderful that these centuries-old trees are now part of our team and this beautiful mission.
Chiara, a native of Sicily, flies in from Italy. She grew up surrounded by waves, salty air, and unique traditions. She discovered us on social media and immediately fell in love with this post. She was particularly moved by the opportunity to rehabilitate her body after spinal surgery back home. Time and again, she asked about that spectacular massage at the foot of the rocky cliffs—our stone colossi on the beach. I told her that this sensual experience can take place with chill music, natural drinks, fresh cucumber slices on her eyes, and the sound of the South Pacific crashing against the coast. (I’m sharing a photo with you, though it barely does justice to that beautiful moment.)
The textures of the volcanic sand, the salt, and the sea breeze are all part of a true rejuvenation for every single cell in your body. We can heal in nature, for we must never forget: health encompasses the body, the soul, and the environment all at once.
