Walk Street Hotel & Apartment

Excellent central location, even though it was at first difficult to find on an out-of-the-way alley. Comfortable bed, excellent wi-fi, quiet and spacious.

Limited amenities. I would have been happier without the smell of sewage that occasionally wafted from the bathroom. It may or may not have been associated with the plugged shower drain, which was never cleared.

It was brand new and I was given a 7th floor room with a balcony with views over to the south of the city, glimpses of the Mekong and sunrise. Even though I have rated the location as bad, it is actually in an ideal central position just a block from the river and the Walk Street night markets and festivities that shut the street off to traffic every Saturday and Sunday nights.

The biggest problem was that no-one knew where it was. The tuk tuk driver who brought me from the bus station had to use a combination of his GPS and mine to get a general idea of where it was. I asked a girl in a coffee shop and she sent me down a narrow walkway between buildings to turn left, turn right then left again and ended up at Sky Hotel, but they had never heard of Walk Street Hotel. It ended up being just 30 metres away. Neighbours don’t know each other around here. Loved it when I found it. Maybe more information on Booking.com would help.
