The property and the site location was so beautiful and welcoming

Such a shame that I have to leave this review, because once I finally gained access to the property, it was absolutely beautiful and could not be faulted. It was beautifully presented, peaceful, scenic and extremely dog-friendly, and I would happily recommend the accommodation and location itself. Unfortunately, my experience gaining access was extremely distressing. I left my location at 6:30pm, approximately two hours away, but due to a road closure following a fatality, I did not arrive until after midnight. The telephone number displayed on the barrier was provided for out-of-hours emergencies, so I contacted the lady whose number was listed. She would not answer my calls and only responded by text. I explained that I was stranded outside, unable to access the key box, and was extremely anxious. Rather than offering assistance, her messages showed very little empathy, including a monkey emoji, and she told me she was in her pyjamas and that I would have to wait until 9am. She also sent a very blurred map and told me to get out of my car and walk to find the accommodation in the pitch black, despite me having never been there before and being alone with my dogs. I did not feel safe doing this. As an Army veteran with PTSD, the situation was particularly distressing. I had travelled for an event in memory of my best friend who sadly passed away in 2024, and the entire experience left me extremely anxious and upset. The gentleman I spoke to the following day was clearly very unhappy about what had happened, but I received no apology and was offered no reduction or refund for the night I was unable to stay. As a regular Booking.com customer who has stayed in many properties over the years, I found the handling of this situation extremely disappointing. The property itself was lovely, but unfortunately the way this genuine out-of-hours emergency was handled completely overshadowed what would otherwise have been a wonderful stay.
