About this house rental

Summary:

Wake up in a wide heritage terrace where the morning light comes down the hallway, walk five minutes for coffee on Glenmore Road, and be at the Paddington Markets before the crowd arrives. The Glenmore is a four-bedroom Paddington terrace built for people who want to put the car keys down for a week.

The Space:

The house runs the full depth of the block, so the living and dining areas are genuinely separate rather than one room doing two jobs. Original detail sits alongside a modern kitchen and two bathrooms. There is a courtyard at the rear for the end of the day, and a full internal laundry with washer and dryer, which is the difference between a holiday and an extended stay that actually works.

Sleeping arrangements

Four bedrooms across the house, comfortable for eight guests. Two families travelling together can each take a floor. Groups here for a wedding or a Sydney Cricket Ground fixture get a real bed each rather than a rollaway in the lounge.

Work and connectivity

Fast Wi-Fi throughout, with room to set up properly at the dining table or in a quiet bedroom. Sydney's CBD is a short train ride from Edgecliff or Bondi Junction, so this works as a base for a fortnight of meetings as readily as a family holiday.

The neighbourhood

Paddington is a walking suburb, which is the whole reason to stay here. Oxford Street is the spine: Ampersand Cafe and Bookstore, the Paddington Ale House, and the Saturday Paddington Markets at Paddington Uniting Church. Five Ways, the junction locals actually meet at, has the Royal Hotel and Alimentari a few doors along. Head into Woollahra for Bistro Moncur and Queen Street's antique dealers, or Darlinghurst for 10 William Street and Saint Peter.

Centennial Park is the green edge of the suburb, good for a run, a picnic or the Centennial Parklands cafe. Moore Park sits beside it with the Sydney Cricket Ground and Allianz Stadium, both an easy walk on match day, plus the EQ precinct and Entertainment Quarter cinemas. Paddington Reservoir Gardens and Victoria Barracks are five minutes away, and the galleries along Glenmore and William Street give the suburb its Saturday rhythm.

For the beach, Bondi is fifteen minutes by car and Bronte a little further, with Tamarama between them. Bondi Junction is one suburb east for Westfield, David Jones and the train line. Groceries are close: Woolworths and Coles at Bondi Junction, and the smaller Fourth Village Providore for anything you forgot.

Medical and university trips are straightforward. St Vincent's Hospital and St Vincent's Private are in Darlinghurst, a ten-minute drive. The Royal Hospital for Women and Prince of Wales at Randwick are twelve minutes. UNSW Kensington is fifteen minutes, the University of Sydney twenty, and Sydney Airport around twenty-five minutes outside peak.

Transport is simple. Buses run along Oxford Street into the city constantly. Edgecliff and Bondi Junction stations put you on the Eastern Suburbs line, and Circular Quay ferries are twenty minutes door to wharf.

Who it suits

Families wanting bedrooms on separate levels and a park at the end of the walk. Groups here for a stadium fixture or a wedding who would rather share a house than book four hotel rooms. Corporate guests on a two-week posting who want a kitchen, a laundry and a real desk. Couples travelling with parents, where everyone needs their own bathroom.

Quick summary

Four bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps eight. Secure parking, full internal laundry, fast Wi-Fi, air conditioning. Ten minutes to Oxford Street and the markets, twelve to the SCG, fifteen to Bondi.

The Glenmore books quickly across school holidays and the football season, so if your dates are firm it is worth securing them now.
