Start House 5 mins walk Airport

Easy walk from the airport. Staff were very welcoming. The bed was comfortable with a small fan. There is a lock for your own bed area. Highly recommend for an airport stop over at this price. Thanks

Clean and pretty comfortable. Staff was always friendly, never impatient. Location is very good if you follow the special instructions on their website about how to get to the airport (there's also a video) - as a slow walker it took me about 6 minutes to get to the outside of the airport terminal, and a few more minutes to figure out how to get inside to the departures area. Filtered drinking water provided. Dorm door opens from inside without a key (good for safety). Despite no windows, glass dorm door opening directly into open-air front area kept it from being claustrophobic. Good plugs and lighting options inside the capsule, and there's a mini ceiling fan, though that wasn't very comfortable for me to use.

It's actually a capsule dorm inside Start House - I guess a newer one than the "Star House Capsule Dorm" listing on Booking. This would be fine except it was really confusing: There's no sign anywhere that says "PH", only "Start House", and there's no staffed reception, so I had to decide whether to scan my passport in the automatic check-in machine without knowing if this was even the right hostel. After I stood there confused for a couple minutes (the system was also a little confusing), staff saw me on the CCTV and came out to check me in. A lot of the facilities aren't designed very well. The capsule had this paper sliding door that opened only with an electronic fob (even from inside - if you leave it outside and close the door, you'd be trapped inside until staff helped you (or I guess you could probably break the paper door in an emergency). To make things worse, the fob didn't work most of the time - the staff guy had a certain magic way of positioning it I guess, but I couldn't do it consistently even after he walked me through it. I just had to try many times and eventually it would open. The keypad for getting into the dorm was also a little hard to use (even for staff). The capsule was sometimes slightly hot because the air conditioning didn't come in very well unless I left the door open. There was a curtain I could open on the side (high above the floor) but not as much air came in there, and there were lights on all night, plus the curtain rod fell down the first time I tried to open it. Bathroom on same floor (which you have to go through the whole common area to get to) didn't have a sink (I guess you're supposed to use the kitchen sink), and bathroom on the next floor up didn't have shower gel and shampoo (even though the tiny downstairs one did). Nowhere in dorm to hang a towel. Elevator operating openly in the stairwell (no enclosed shaft) seems a little dangerous.
