Matropica Co-Working Hostel

We had a good start when the host welcomed us at check-in and gave us a quick walkthrough of the accommodation. We specifically chose this place because it had a kitchen and a co-working space. I work remotely and prefer cooking my own meals, especially since this was my second time in Siargao and I had already tried most of the restaurants. Unfortunately, things got uncomfortable when we started using the kitchen. We booked two separate rooms with my friends, but when we cooked, the host told us we were only allowed to cook one dish per meal. We agreed and even decided to pay extra for the gas because we wanted to prepare a few more dishes. However, as the days went by, the host became unaccommodating whenever we wanted to cook. Then she told us we could only cook once a day, which was honestly confusing and frustrating. Our main concern wasn't having to pay extra. We were more than willing to do so. The problem was that none of these restrictions were clearly communicated before booking. The kitchen was listed as an amenity, so naturally, we expected to be able to use it within reasonable limits. We even bought our own condiments and made sure to replace anything we used that belonged to the host. The way things were handled made us feel uncomfortable using the kitchen, almost as if we were doing something wrong just by cooking in a place we paid to stay in. There was also an issue with one of my friends' rooms. The listing indicated that it had air conditioning, but when we checked in, there was only an electric fan. The host explained that she hadn't updated the listing yet. We understood and didn't make a big deal out of it, but again, these are things that should be accurate and clarified before guests arrive. We also paid extra for the gas but again clear expectations are important from the beginning. As for the co-working space, the internet connection on the second floor was really slow, so we had to go up to the third floor to work comfortably. I also experienced facial and back allergies during our stay. I can't say for sure if they were caused by the bedding, but it did make me question how clean the sheets were. I booked this place based on the positive reviews about how accommodating the host was, so the experience was disappointing. Maybe the experience differs from guest to guest, but we didn't feel particularly welcome, especially when it came to using the amenities advertised. So, If you're planning to book this place because you want to cook your own meals, clarify all the kitchen rules and any additional charges before booking. The same goes for the amenities listed in the rooms. It's not about refusing to pay extra; it's about knowing what you're paying for and not feeling uncomfortable during your stay. Clear expectations from the beginning would have made a huge difference.

Place is clean, provides drinking water, and kitchen can be used. Location is very favorable specially if you have your own motorbike as it is near to everything. Staff are accommodating and helpful. they have 1 queen and 1 twin room - which is good for 2 and. a separate room for bunkbeds (sharing) Wifi in their working space is fast its just that when I was there the WIFI for 2nd floor is not working. Value for money, and will definitely book again if theres a chance

It’s near town and accessible to resto and stores.

Staff were some of the friendliest people however they turned the water off when I stayed. This meant no showers and the bathroom taps wouldn’t run. Water was off for a while and there was a problem with the water system. Also there was power cuts but in other hostels in the same area I didn’t get any. Lastly the bathroom/shower had many mosquitos in it every time I went in and it’s cramped so uncomfortable to even go toilet
