Casa ao Lado no centro histórico

This place was one of the true highlights of our Camino. The first thing that struck us was the apartment itself. It has been recently renovated by the owners, and they did an absolutely incredible job. It honestly felt less like a rental and more like a home they designed and built for themselves. Every detail felt thoughtful and intentional — beautiful finishes, comfort, style, and little touches everywhere that made us stop and appreciate them. You can feel the pride and care that went into creating it. For future Camino pilgrims: Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to two nights in this wonderful spot in the heart of an amazing town. It is a true luxury and a genuine reward along the journey. After days of walking, this felt like the kind of place that restores you. Ponte de Lima itself is a wonderful town that deserves more than a quick overnight stop, and this is absolutely the kind of place that makes you wish you had booked an extra night just to slow down and enjoy both the town and the apartment a little longer. Now for José Carlos: he was an amazing host and just a genuinely wonderful person to meet. He welcomed us with a glass of Port wine, shared local recommendations, and made us feel like guests rather than customers. He was incredibly responsive — even when I accidentally butt-dialed him several times! He clearly takes tremendous pride in what he has created, and it shows in every interaction. There were also thoughtful extras waiting for us: wonderful muffins and treats left in the fridge that were such an unexpected and appreciated touch. By the end of our stay, I honestly felt like I left with a friend in Carlos.

The only downside? We couldn’t stay longer. Our biggest mistake was treating this as just another Camino stop instead of giving ourselves an extra day to enjoy both the beautiful apartment and Ponte de Lima.

Modern, updated furnishings and great location. Could be comfortable staying here for months or years.

Not a thing

Alles beviel ons! Binnen stappen bij Casa ao Lado is als thuis komen. José en zijn vrouw hebben samen een fantastisch plek gecreëerd midden in het centrum van Ponte de Lima. Er is overal aan gedacht. Vers gebakken cupcakjes, jam, snoep, water, melk, een oplader voor je telefoon, een kan water naast je bed. Je krijgt zelfs om de 2 dagen verse handdoeken. De details en de extra's om je verblijf zo comfortabel mogelijk te maken gaan verder dan je standaard vakantiehuisje. Dit is een totale andere klasse. Daarnaast is José super attent en vriendelijk. Bij zijn eerste contact wist ik al dat ik hem leuk zou vinden. Leuk contact, goede gesprekken en heel goed bereikbaar. Dit is tot nu toe de beste appartement die we ooit hebben gehuurd.
