The town is named after a 12th-century Benedictine monastery, and is situated on a plateau surrounded by ancient forests, hills and traditional farmhouses. It is also known for its gastronomic, cultural and historical sights. and the town holds traditional events, including the famous sausage market, which attracts visitors from all over Istria.
Popular nearby excursions include a trip to Pazin (a 15-minute drive) with its impressive medieval fortress above the Pazin Cave and the Ethnographic Museum of Istria. Here, visitors can experience an exciting zipline ride above the abyss of the Pazin Cave.
You can also quickly reach the coastal towns of Porec (a 30-minute drive), Rovinj (a 35-minute drive) and Pula (a 45-minute drive). Whilst in Porec, guests should head to the Euphrasian Basilica, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
