High Haven Cottage in the Orinoco Valley

I wanted a mountain experience and the views were lovely of the high mountain ranch - the hosts were friendly and helpful, the outdoor kitchen for cooking was fun (a small counter inside with toaster and kettle if you don’t feel like the great outdoors). It’s a small place, would be cozy for two but that’s what cottages are all about. Bed very comfy and linens exceptional! I stayed 2, could have stayed longer. Stars were amazing! The short 25 min drive to the beach was pretty and I found a swimming hole along the way. A great spot if you want something other than the beach 😊

There is a short section of gravel road to access the property, but this isn’t unusual in NZ. Plan to get dusty!

the quietness

We booked for three nights and wished we could have stayed longer. The cottage was very quirky but with a charm all of its own. The setting was superb, far up in the hills and so very very peaceful. Our host was fantastic and very generous with what was supplied, as well as gifts of home produced products. We will definitely come again if we return to the region. We liked everything. However the road for the last 1 or 2 km is gravel and very dusty. But don't let that put you off.
