BOOK NOW before we fill up!!! Invite your family and friends to enjoy cooler weather, long walks, the fire pit and fall colors! Bring your gear to fish, take a walk or hike, see the falls, play some golf, ride horses, do a little shopping and have a few great meals out…or cook in the cottage! Mentone is a relaxing get-away in all seasons!
Escape to this private artsy. unique Mountain Cottage near picturesque Mentone, AL, located on 1-1/3 acres with water views! Located behind Boy Scout Camp Comer and just 8 minutes from Desoto State Park and 20 minutes from Little River Canyon! This 2200 sf cottage has a charming board and batten exterior with a stone foundation and metal roof, and is located on an elevated wooded corner lot. Even though we are in a rural neighborhood, there are no houses right "next door" so you should enjoy plenty of privacy during your stay. You'll enter the cottage through the front porch which has two wide steps and a ramp. This porch is a cozy, hang-out spot with two Cracker Barrel rocking chairs and a wooden porch swing. It's decorated with several local art pieces and a hand-painted cabinet. Double French doors decorated with wreaths usher you into the entry area of the dining room, kitchen and Great Room open floor plan.
(**The cottage has 4 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms accommodating up to 12 guests. Please enter the correct number of guests you will have in your group.** Huckleberry Haven has 4 exterior cameras on the property for security reasons so we will know how many guests are staying. Accommodations: There are 2 bedrooms located on the main floor (sleeps 4) and 2 upstairs (sleeps 8). Off the Great Room is a king-size bedroom with a smart TV and an ensuite bathroom with a soaker tub & shower combination and a vanity with 2 sinks. There is also a stacking full-size washer & dryer and an ironing board & iron. Also on the main floor is a queen bedroom with a smart TV and an ensuite bathroom. This bath has a walk-in shower. You cannot roll a wheelchair into the shower but you could assist someone who is able to stand for short periods. **There are no grab bars installed in bathrooms at this time.**
Upstairs you'll find 2 bedrooms with a shared bathroom down the hallway which has a shower and soaker tub combination. There is a very large vanity with 2 sinks. The larger upstairs bedroom has 2 queen-sized beds, a smart TV and some extra floor space that allows kids and teens to spread out a little. The second bedroom upstairs has one queen bed, an antique dresser and a smart TV. Through the 2nd upstairs bedroom is "The Happy Place." This special space has a double bed, cute children's artwork and a desk/chair with a pull-out computer work surface. This room does have a door for privacy! There is no TV in this room. Upstairs bedrooms are carpeted for warmth and to help with sound.
An open floor plan on the main level includes a Great Room, dining room, and kitchen. The flooring on this level is locally milled and stained pine planks which add to the rustic charm! The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and custom cabinetry. You'll be able to prepare both simple and gourmet meals. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of dishes, glassware, cookware, bakeware, serving pieces, mixing bowls, utensils and cutlery. There are multiple small appliances: a combination coffee maker to make a pot of coffee or use K-cups , 2 crockpots, 2 blenders, and a 4-slice toaster. Love to bake? There's even a Kitchen-Aid mixer! The coffee station has some starter coffee, coffee pods, sugar, creamer and other hot drink mixes to get you started. Don't forget to throw in your favorites as well. There is a high table in the kitchen area that seats 3 people and allows extra space for food preparation and serving. **Hot mats and coasters are provided to protect wood surfaces.** In the dining area is a large, farmhouse-style table that seats 8 people. Two extra chairs help you squeeze a couple more in. It's perfect for mealtimes, playing games or working puzzles. The Great Room space features comfortable seating for 7 people at a time including recliners, with a gas-log fireplace (for colder weather Oct through March), display bookcases, and a large smart TV. There is a half-bath tucked under the wide staircase that's convenient to the open living spaces.
On the main level, you'll find a spacious covered back porch (10' x 30') you access through a sliding glass door. This porch allows guests to enjoy beautiful views of the wooded property and the small lake. There is seasonal furniture, a dining table with 4 chairs, and a large gas grill for your convenience. It's a perfect spot for a quiet coffee in the morning or gathering in the evening after a busy day . The sectional seating area has a cover to keep it clean. Guests may remove it to enjoy the space.
Accessible via the front porch entry is a large firepit area with Adirondack chairs and side tables. Gather at the firepit when the weather is cool to roast hot dogs and marshmallows...and perhaps make S'mores too. There's a small covered deck area near the firepit with a small table and 4 stools. Please don’t leave food or trash in these areas as it will attract bears and other wildlife!!
Parking: There is parking at the cottage for 4-5 cars and room for at least one to be near the porch for easy unloading near the ramp. Please note that the driveway is a bit steep and covered with gravel like most homes in the area. When driving up, a slow steady foot on the gas will get you to the top (don't stop!)

I had booked another cabin inadvertently for 2027, which was not available for this year when I realized my mistake. I had to broaden my search area because many cabins in the area we originally planned for were also not available. What started out as a mistake and disappointment turned into a wonderful blessing for our family. Huckleberry Haven was definitely a “meant to be.” I cannot say enough great things about the owner, the property, and location. The house is beyond charming and so comfortable that it feels like the best hug. We have stayed in many VRBOs through the years and this is by far one of our favorites. Sarah and Jasper have gone to great lengths to make you feel welcomed. The home is well stocked with a variety of kitchen items, seating and beds, and plenty of towels! Sarah has a true gift for decorating…just precious. We appreciated all the extra touches that made everyone feel right at home. One of my grandsons (7) said he wanted to come here again and again. Mentone has always been such a great place to visit, but now we look forward to returning just so we can stay in Huckleberry Haven!

A rental to keep pinned on favorite places to stay! It was like staying in a southern living magazine! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals. Plenty of comfortable seating for our group and enjoyed the large table for meals and card games. The back porch was cozy and gas grill was nice to have. Great location to hike and eat tomato pie at the Wildflower Cafe, not bad drive to raft down the Ocoee. We hope to bring our grown kids to stay again!

This was a wonderful property that exceeded our expectations in every way! It was uniquely and beautifully decorated which made it feel much more like home. It is one of the cleanest places we have ever stayed. The location is perfect and close to so many fun places to visit - Mentone, Ft. Payne, DeSoto state park, hiking trails, falls… communication with hosts was exemplary! The back porch and fire pit areas were well used and there was plenty of space for everyone (4 adults and 3 kids!) We will definitely be back!

Beautiful home. Great quality mattressesAnd sheets! It was cold and there were plenty of pillows and blankets. Living room with fireplace spacious yet cozy. We LOVED the decor an feeling of this home. 10/10 on the home and kindness of the owners. Recommend!!!
