The Neighborhood:
Rigg End Group sits in the upper Eden Valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 10 minutes from the market town of Kirkby Stephen and 30 minutes from the Lake District. This is a walking country: the smooth, green Howgill Fells, the heights of Wild Boar Fell, and Smardale Gill nature reserve with its great stone viaduct are all close, while the celebrated Settle–Carlisle railway threads dramatic scenery nearby. Sedbergh, England’s book town, and a scattering of dale villages with old stone pubs are within easy reach. Days are for the fells, the rivers and the views; evenings for the fire and the hot tub, with the Dales all around.
Getting Around:
A car is highly recommended for exploring the beauty of the region. The farmhouse is:
• 30 minutes from the Lake District – ideal for day trips to Windermere, Ambleside, or Ullswater
• 15 minutes from Kendal – a lively market town with shops, cafés, and galleries
• 10 minutes from Tebay Services – a beloved farm shop and service station offering delicious local produce and treats
You’re also just 10 minutes from Kirkby Stephen, which offers local amenities and rail access. Whether you’re planning scenic drives, countryside walks, or foodie stops, this is the perfect base for adventure.
Other Things to Note:
