Breakfast was not provided but I was able to prepare my own breakfast using the host's own kitchen, and use the dining table in the adjacent living room. The accommodation was a room in the owner's private house conveniently located about 25 minutes walk from the University of Hull, where I was attending a two-day event. The room was equipped with a wall-mounted TV opposite the bed and wi-fi was available. The bed was comfortable and warm, and the room was clean and well-heated. It had a large wardrobe with plenty of space and hangers, and there was plenty of drawer space. There was an extension socket beside the bed where I could plug in my laptop and phone charger. I was expecting toThe house was quiet and I was able to sleep undisturbed by any noise.
I was expecting to find a small guesthouse or hotel rather than a room in a private house. That could have been made clearer on booking.com. On arrival, I was unable to locate the property, as the block of houses had a cul-de-sac both at the front and at the back, and I found myself at the back, where local people I asked had never heard of Mona, and I had to phone the owner to be directed to the entrance. The kitchen was not well equipped, with minimal cutlery (no table knife for spreading butter) and apparently only one large china bowl and one large plate for use by the host and any guests.. I felt I needed to wash and dry utensils I used for breakfast as if I was staying in a hostel. In the bathroom there was a shower over the bath but no non-slip mat in the bath or any grab rail to assist with getting in or out. The light switch in the bedroom was not securely fixed to the wall. Nearby bus services did not serve the university or Cottingham station.
