Renovated and modern apartment in Alppila

As the description indicates, the apartment is recently (spring 2026) renovated. The floor didn't look quite finished but was clean, and I could still smell a bit of the paint job. As long as I kept the windows open, the smell was minimal. The appliances were fine (i.e. fridge-freezer, coffee machine, microwave, electric range, washing machine) and there's a foldable rack for drying laundry. Note there was a no electric kettle, so if you'd want tea, you'd need to use the microwave or small pot to heat up your water. The Wi-fi worked fine. I was met by the owner's daughter who handed over the keys. The location is excellent for any traveler who's beyond the stage of a total noob. On the same street is a 24-hour Alepa and regular K-Market for groceries and basic toiletries. 15 minutes of walking northwest gets you to the Tripla complex which combines a large shopping mall and the Pasila train station (almost all trains from Helsinki that go elsewhere in Finland stop at Pasila) while 15 minutes of walking southeast gets you to the Sörnainen neighborhood which has good and reasonably-priced options for eating out. Lastly, the streetcar stop is 5 minutes away from the apartment with the trip to the main train station taking just 15 minutes with streetcar number 9.

There was very little in the way of pots and pans: just one pot and frying pan each, and both were quite small. I felt that cooking a basic meal for more than one person would have been impractical. There were plenty of shallow and deep (soup) plates as is typical in many of these kinds of rental units but no bowls. This was annoying enough for me that I went to a nearby store to buy a couple bowls so that I could eat my oatmeal at breakfast (the cups were small, and wouldn't have been useful for holding a decent serving of oatmeal like a big cup could). May the bowls be useful for future guests. :-) The washing machine takes a load of 6 kg but isn't secured tightly in its corner of the bathroom. When the drum starts to spin hard late in the cycle, it'll shake loudly and start to creep towards the middle of the bathroom. I had to monitor the machine and hold it in place at this stage.

Nice apartment in a good area. Ideally situated for the tram and Messukeskus. Hosts were friendly and responded quickly.

The lighting in the living and bedroom areas was very dim so I couldn't read in there. There was also no kettle for making tea.

The owner is friendly. The location is accessible and near linnanmäki, sea life, parks, and convenience stores. We really liked the sharp knife in the kitchen and wifi. The owner also allowed our friends to visit and he gave us lots of drinks. We really appreciate it! We will definitely come back.

When we arrived, the whole property have a strong smell of paint, but that's a given because they're renovating it. I was also surprised because it is better than what I expected, so it's really not a problem. On our last day, there was a water interruption in the whole building and we couldn't do anything till we checked out. Emergency water galloons can help with this because we also need to drink water. I also think the light in the bedroom is not enough, and there's no bidet in the bathroom. We're planning to bring our car next time but the property doesn't have a parking area for cars though.
