The Space:

Ideally located in the Cannonborough Elliotborough neighborhood of Charleston, this one-bedroom carriage house provides a wonderful taste of the city's history and charm, as well as easy walking access to an endless assortment of restaurants, landmarks, and boutiques downtown. This comfortable space is accented by original hardwood floors, a full bathroom on each of the two levels, a private washer/dryer for your ease and convenience, and a fully equipped kitchen with every essential. Leave your car in the provided off-street parking space, and spend balmy afternoons relaxing outside on your private patio. At night, you'll have a loft-style bedroom with a beautiful, queen-size rice bed, an 18th-century style originated by the acclaimed craftsman Thomas Elfe. This type of bed was designed to allow for better air circulation throughout the hot summer, offering four posts that have been intricately carved with images of rice and tobacco, two crops that defined Southern agriculture at the time. In the living room, you'll find a cable TV and an additional sleeper sofa as well.

The Historic Charleston City Market is one mile southeast, while Liberty Square - the launch point for boats that go to Fort Sumter National Monument - is one mile east. You'll also be in the perfect location for visiting the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), which awaits one block west.

The lock combination provided did not unlock the door. We contacted the supprt number and they were ble to provide us with access to the lock box with a physical key. After a seven hour drive that was an unwanted task to deal with. Other than that all was great.

Everything about this place is so good. Quaint and quiet. Perfect for a couple just getting away for a few days. Close to lots of must sees in Charleston too.

Our experience there was a mixed bag. The good points I can list: The keypad door lock meant we didn’t have to mess with keys. The A/C and heat worked well. Shower water pressure and temperatures were good. The bed was very comfortable once you managed to climb into it. My wife had to use the steps provided to get into it. The internet worked well as did the TV with streaming apps and cable. Having 2 bathrooms, one up and one down was definitely a plus. The downsides: Furniture other than the bed was awful. Extremely uncomfortable couch and one awkward easy chair in the main room. No chairs at all on the 2nd level – a problem with the high bed. Arrangement of the couch in the main room made watching TV difficult. The kitchen appliances were iffy. The dishwasher upper rack threatened to fall out every time it was pulled out. The dishwasher was so loud, we went upstairs to the TV. The stove has a burner that didn’t work. The microwave worked but was probably the slowest microwave I’ve ever used. Coffee maker and toaster both worked well. Fridge was not fancy but worked well. The spray for the kitchen sink didn’t work. The place is advertised as sleeping 4, with two on the sofa bed. Interestingly, there are only two chairs for the dining table. My impression is more of mix of "charming" with “first off-campus apartment for a college student – and not a very expensive one at that." The property manager didn't do anything about our reported problems.
