Felinga Guest House

The place was well located for our purposes, with a lot of attention given to security. It was very clean and the kitchen was decently equipped. It had a washing machine, which I did not expect. We visited in winter and the beds had electric blankets which were really life-savers in the cold Gauteng weather. It has a rather nice little garden which, considering the small size of the flat, is a big bonus with the use of the garden table and chairs. It is equipped with a huge TV in the lounge.

1. It is a misnomer to call the place a “guesthouse”. It is a ground-floor flat in a complex of blocks of flats. 2. It is listed as “wheelchair accessible”. It is not – while located on the ground floor, it has three steps which would be rather difficult to negotiate for a person permanently on a wheelchair. 3. The access via once-off (!) security codes is ideal in theory but very limiting in practice, considering that I had to remind the owner/caretaker (?) to send me the codes daily – I was initially told that it is impossible to generate codes for the whole of my stay. This proved possible later. However, even with the codes, I still had to register with the security guard (scan my driver’s licence) each time I entered. A method of a once-off registration of visitors for the duration of their stay should be made possible. 4. The place is tiny – and I mean it. While theoretically four people could be accommodated considering the bed sizes (two rooms, each with a large double bed), in practice it is exactly the bed sizes that make the place feel cramped. Bigger people will find the space in the bedrooms very inadequate. 5. One room has a bed situated with one side next to a window thus forcing the bed user to “crawl over” the other user when getting in or out. 6. The same room has an en-suite bathroom. The shower has a sliding door but the whole bathroom only has a curtain separating it from the (tiny) room – no privacy when going to the toilet!!! 7. This room has only one bedside table – and the light there was not working. 8. The second bedroom is even smaller and the additional TV installed there is NOT a bonus – it makes the already cramped space even more difficult to manoeuvre when getting into and out of the bed. 9. There was NO bedside table and NO bedside lamp in that room. 10. This room has the use of the general bathroom which only has a bath, with no shower option. With the lack of privacy in the first bedroom, the use of that shower is difficult

It’s cold so a heater would help.

A lovely little apartment with a super friendly host.

The apartment needed to be aired out before anyone stays, especially the second bedroom was extremely dusty/musky. More towels were needed, as 3guest checked in for 3nights. Cooking utensils like spatular was needed. The couch definitely needs an upgrade
