Myrtle Grove

The cottage was in a stunning location and within easy reach of the main roads. The farm's own fantastic restaurant and children's play area is just a few minutes away and they also have a very well-stocked grocery shop. We arrived for Christmas week and the hosts had generously put up a Christmas tree and left a bottle pf prosecco. The kitchen was very well stocked with equipment and the dining table and lounge were big enough to seat the four of us and our two family guests for dinner and relaxation. There were also books and games. We wish we'd brought better walking shoes for exploring the fields and valleys around the cottage - especially after reading the thoroughly researched history that was included in the cottage handbook, but we had to settle instead for excellent bird watching and star gazing from the patio. One rather surprising feature was the loveliness of ladybirds hibernating in the shower rail that all come out when you take a shower!

After a long drive to reach the cottage, it would have been nice to have a few tea-bags, a bit of coffee and small bottle of milk in the fridge upon arrival. There was also no hand soap and in other cottages we've been grateful to find a few store-cupboard basics when spending a week away from home, like oil, salt, pepper, cling film, etc. We all found the bed pillows uncomfortable, although the beds themselves were fine. These are relatively minor points, as we'd definitely consider returning.
