La maison millésime

Quiet location in small village near Minerve. Spacious room.

We are travelling across France and staying between 1 and 3 nights at each stop. This was a one night stop, but the host informed me that it was very unusual to just stay 1 night in her gite and there were no coffee pods with the coffee machine in the room as a result. She did eventually provide some, but it was unclear whether we would be charged for them or not as there was a note indicating that they were €1 each. She did not charge in the end. There were extremely detailed instructions about what is and isn’t allowed. For instance, you can sit on the terrace and have a picnic in the afternoon, but are not allowed to eat in the room, or use the terrace during breakfast and dinner. You cannot use the outdoor kitchen. They put the petit in petit-déjeuner, as it was quite sparse and did not match the photos on booking.com, nor did even include a second cup of coffee. The bed was quite uncomfortable and the wifi signal would drop intermittently. There was also a throw rug on the floor that we tripped over multiple times and eventually just slid under the bed for the duration of our stay. Our overall impression was that they have a particular guest profile and that we were not it. As a result, we felt like they were in the business of collecting our money - weeks in advance, and providing us with a roof over our head, but it was lacking the character and charm we have experienced at many other gites during our travels. Also, they have 3 small, noisy dogs that are not comfortable around strangers. We love dogs, but maybe not the best breed to own with the amount of guests I expect they see.
