    The location is unbeatable, with access to Exeter and Plymouth. Excellent cleanliness and friendly staff, which made my stay comfortable.

    I stayed at The Gissons and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was for the price. It’s very easy to get to, just off the A38, and there’s a large free car park at the rear — just remember to pop your registration into their system when you arrive. The reception desk wasn’t manned when I got there, but a clearly displayed phone number made it simple to get assistance. The hotel side is accessed through a secure door with a code, which felt reassuring. My room was clean and had all the basics: tea, coffee, milk, a hair dryer, and an all‑in‑one body and hair wash. What really impressed me was finding **two fans and a portable air‑con unit** already in the room — an absolute lifesaver during the heatwave. The bed was comfy, and the shower had great pressure. Yes, a few areas were a little worn, but everything was clean and perfectly functional. The restaurant was closed for refurbishment during my stay, so I didn’t get to try the food, but that didn’t detract from the overall experience. All in all, a good place to stay — easy access, comfortable room, thoughtful cooling options, and excellent value for money. I left impressed.

    Where to start?! The door was locked on arrival and had to call a mobile number to get let in. The receptionist was friendly but their pronunciation was very poor so the information they provided was not understood. What I did understand was that the restaurant was not operating so an evening meal nor breakfast the next morning was not available (a detail omitted when booking). I was given a code for the front door keypad (that I later discovered did not work and only gained access through someone else’s grace). The room was comfortable enough but small details let it down (mainly the bathroom). The final disappointment was when the fire alarm sounded just as I was getting into bed, continuing long for me to get half dressed before silencing, then resounding again once I had returned to bed forcing me to again begin dressing before silencing again. Subsequently, i struggle to get to sleep, expectedly awaiting for the alarm to resound. With a 4 & 1/2 hour car journey the following day (on an empty stomach with reduced sleep) I would not recommend staying here again.

    No Bar or Food available. Shower hanging off the wall, Shower Tray very slow to drain, soap/shampoo dispensers broken. Close to main dual carriage way, but traffic noise can be shut out by windows. Portable air conditioning unit very welcome.
