The location was excellent! It was in a quiet neighborhood, a three minute walk away from a konbini and a 7 minute walk from the metro station. While the walk to the metro was short, we were also able to call cabs on the Go app when needed. There's a small park with some exercise equipment and a playground right across the street. On the way to the konbini, there is a delightful bridge and canal-front walk! The apartment was clean, spacious (we were a party of 7 and had plenty of room to spare) and furnished exactly as shown in the photos on the listing. There is a small lift that goes up to the 5th floor apartment so luggage was not a problem. The kitchen was small but well equipped with cutlery and tableware. We almost thought that there were no appliances, but there were! A microwave, kettle and rice cooker were hidden away behind a curtain in the kitchen :D The two bathrooms were clean and functional - the downstairs bathroom has a sitting bathtub and the upstairs has a shower. There were plenty of fresh towels and there was a small washer and a dryer which was much appreciated. Though we didn't use it, there was one smart TV. There are ACs in every room including the living room. These were very effective and worked quickly to warm up the spaces and occasionally to cool them down when the house got too warm! All the beds were comfortable and made up with fresh and clean sheets. The futon room was huge and the other bedrooms were also of a good size with room for all our bags and closets where we could put things away. We were expecting small/tiny rooms and were very pleasantly surprised!

The stairs going up to the second level of the house are steep. Our parents who are in their 70s preferred to stay downstairs. The drain in the upstairs bathroom is slow.

Location: 10/10 Around 5 mins walk from the closest JR station with a supermarket that closes at 10pm (v rare in Japan) and a Lawson en-route. 1 station away from Shinjuku so all in all superb location. The creek right next door had rows of cherry blossoms as well so there was no need to fight for pictures of cherry blossoms with the crowd. Rooms: All rooms were clean. We did not ask for the living room to be set into a sofabed but it turned out OK as we did not want to stay in the tatami room. Two rooms were situated on the 2/F so it was necessary for 4 people to climb the steep stairs daily to get to the rooms. As a group of 6, we really enjoyed the living room area which allowed us to hang out and chill after a long day of exploration. Kitchen: They had all the necessary utentils and kitchenware to make simple meals. Some of the pots are not in the best shape bit it is use-able. Host was super responsive and able to come fix the small issues very quickly.

Bathroom: Although it is true there are 2 bathrooms, the bathroom on 2/F had a shower right next to the toilet so it was difficult to navigate how to keep your towel and clothes dry when showering in that space. Also there was no wash basin so we had to wash up in the kitchen sink. Suggestion to the host would be to install some hooks and shelving to allow people to put their clean towel and clothes in the 2/F bathroom. The 1/F bathroom is a typical Japanese shower and tub facility. The greatest issue is that the area that you step out into had no door so it was a challenge to share this apartment with friends without flashing them. Host should consider having some doors or privacy screens.
