NOMAD Hostel Stone Town

Juma was a lovely host and made sure I had everything I needed. Breakfast was also very nice, with fruits, bread, omelet, coffee, and tea.

The hostel is in a good location, breakfast is included, and everything was clean and comfortable.

I originally booked a 10-bed dorm with early check-in, but as it wasn’t ready I was moved to a 6-bed dorm, which wasn’t an issue. However, the air conditioning didn’t work, making the room extremely hot and humid with very little airflow. On my second night, I had to go to hospital due to difficulty breathing. After tests, the doctors felt the humidity and lack of airflow were contributing and advised me to stay somewhere with AC. The hostel moved me to another room, which I appreciated, but initially told me I would have to pay extra. As the listing stated the rooms had air conditioning, I was disappointed to be asked to pay more for a room with working AC, particularly when the move was following medical advice. The showers also could be better organised. You need to switch the heater on and wait for the water to heat up, but a few times I did this, went to grab my things, and someone else had gone into the shower and used the hot water I’d been waiting for. Some sort of system for the shared showers would make this much easier and less frustrating.
