Akitsu Ryokan

Peaceful, calm, beautiful room, lovely town.

Better to have a car. Stairs to the room are very steep so possibly a challenge to those with mobility issues. We are in our 60s - 70s and handled them.

This ryokan was a perfect getaway. The attention to detail for the space was truly stunning. The host was so welcoming and accommodating during our stay. We enjoyed the charm of the town and the peacefulness of it all. The hinoki bath was especially a standout. We would love to come back!

Overall, there are a few standout things about this place. The location is absolutely gorgeous, it's a little town in the mountains where everywhere you look is just stunning. Other than that, the owner is fantastic, willing to answer any questions and helps with getting to and from the guesthouse - which is quite helpful given it's a few Ks away from the nearest train station.

It is in a very small town, which means that there aren't any convenience stores, and aren't many restaurants around. If you're prepared to walk a little bit that's not much of a problem, but if you're sick (as I was) or have issues with walking you may have to buy dinner in advance. Otherwise the only other thing of note is the staircase up into the guesthouse. It shouldn't be an issue for most people, but if you have trouble with stairs you may want to be careful.
