Other things to keep in mind
Located at 423meters above sea level, Castelbuono is one of the 15 towns located within the Madonie Park. Dating back to the Middle Ages (1316) and once ruled by the Ventimiglia Princes—who made it the capital of their vast fiefdom—it has developed over the centuries while preserving its original layout.
Today, Castelbuono has about 8,000 residents and is one of the liveliest towns in the Madonie, rich in artisanal crafts, ancient traditions, and an active and resourceful community.
Visited by a steady stream of tourists during the summer, it offers a beautiful season filled with cultural, musical, and theatrical events.
And of course, the excellent cuisine is not to be missed: several restaurants and trattorias offer traditional Madonie dishes, primarily featuring meat, mushrooms, and vegetables. The highlight is the local specialty dessert, “la testa di turco.”
