Carls' Corner

Carls Corner is a wonderful oasis in the hills just above Kandy. It's close to the city, and yet very calm and surrounded by nature. The beds are comfy and the hostel is very well designed. The hostel is social, with many solo travellers looking for a relaxed vibe to meet other people. But above all, Carl is an incredible host and a pleasure to be around. He cares so much about his guests and is always willing to help, suggest things, hangout and chat. He's also a phenomenal cook, I really recommend asking him to make some of his rice and curries, it was a highlight of my stay. Carl's Corner is an absolute gem in Kandy, and I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

The behaviour of owners are very soft & supportable. Good cleaning,,surrounded by greenery.

Carl is kind, welcoming and interested in helping tourists make the most of the city- it’s clear he is an experienced tour guide. He knows food, and cooked and excellent breakfast; I didn’t have the evening meal, which I regret! The hostel layout is good for socialising and the separate pods give you privacy. I liked being out of the main city area, despite the climb. I would stay here again.

Carl was absent when I arrived, having been playing taxi for previous guests- he’s a very busy man and the hostel is a work in progress following the cyclone damage. Unfortunately, this meant the bathrooms were unclean and I made my own bed. Mosquitoes were an issue and I hope that nets will be introduced in the future. I expect that with a few more months in action, the hostel will be exceptional, due to Carl’s charisma and desire to provide an excellent service.

The beds are comfy and Carl is just the absolute best! Best Host I had in Sri Lanka. Good recommendations and such a good service. Also I learned a lot from him about Sri Lankan politics and history! Very very good!
