Captains Cove

The property is fantastic and provides many amenities to keep you busy rain or shine. We enjoyed the large pool and pickleball court. There are many, many table games provided on the second floor of the barn, plus lawn games, bicycles, and if you bring your own basketball, a hoop on the first floor of the barn. Also, paddle boards and kayaks are available for use. Tons to keep yourselves active. The house was clean and fully stocked with extras provided like toilet paper, body wash, shampoos, and laundry detergent. The down side was the mild musty smell in the main house which you get used to; however, the musty stench in the pool cottage was overwhelming. There are plenty of common areas to gather or other rooms for small conversations. Not necessarily an issue but something to be aware of is the very small bathroom on the second floor that services four bedrooms. It is not ideal. Note: While the location is less than a mile from downtown, the walk/bike ride to town is mostly on the main road and not kid friendly. So for us, we needed to drive. There seems to be plenty of parking though and driving was not an issue.

We did not like the three broken door locks upon check in which necessitated coordination to fix. A quality control hassle right at the beginning of our trip. In general, we did not like so many strangers coming onto the property during our long weekend stay. It was necessary for men to come on Friday to repair the door locks. This was coordinated with the owner. However, on Saturday (the main day of our visit) there were at least 11 people that visited the property with no prior communication or expectations set up ahead of time. Or at least we do not recall this being communicated in any of the paperwork. They just came and went all day long at will from 0700 to 1600 or so. They retrieved supplies from and to the barn for off property work, tended to the pool, mowed the property while we were outside using it (if we had known about this one, we would have rearranged our day as several have severe allergies that kicked off due to this), and watered the plants. We appreciate that this property is large, and we understand it requires maintenance. At no time were any of the visitors rude; however, it would have been nice to have been informed that we would not be alone and could have adjusted our expectations and schedule where appropriate.
