I wasn’t expecting much from a cheap place to stay in downtown Toronto, but a little more than the bare minimum would have been good. I arrived at the accommodation and was taken to a different address to stay there instead. I was given the key to my room and was met by a mostly clean room, but lack of attention to detail. Smears on the wall from however long ago, dirty curtains, toilet paper roll that had unknown stuff all over the edges, clearly watered dwn handsoap, broken or barely working air conditioner with gaps wide enough for bugs to fly in… I was not impressed, even with the cheaper price compared to other locations in the area for the weekend. Also tried to get in touch with the property to ask about the advertised free wifi as well as talk about my issues, and never got a response. Absolutely regret not spending a few more bucks on something more worthwhile. Decently close to most downtown locations though, like the arenas, CN Tower, and waterfront for example.

I stayed here for a five day stretch. 586 is a converted home, which is fine, but it has been laid out in such a way to really get the most rooms for rent possible. This leads to insane decisions, like having a giant mini fridge that can’t open in the room to… seem like there’s more conveniences? But no where for you to have your shower items, except for a rusty nail that you can hang a face cloth on. The stairs are small and steep, with signs saying to take off your shoes (don’t, even the staff do not want you to). It is wide enough for a person, but be careful when carrying your luggage, as there isn’t room to turn around. Also, if you do as the signs ask and take off your shoes, you will slip and fall. The room was dirty, with hair and detritus from the previous client. Bugs can come in from the poorly installed ac. Taking out the garbage is also the responsibility of the guest, for reasons I assume are due to the danger of carrying things up and down the stairs. The only positives were the location and the staff. The staff get yelled at and treated cruelly by guest a lot, but they are genuinely sweet and trying their best. I feel bad that I can’t say more positive things.
